PALM BEACH COUNTY CULTURAL HISTORY

Palm Beach County's rich cultural history has long been a source of pride and inspiration for its residents and visitors alike. Historical points of interest representing the early days of the area's inhabitants include the DuBois Museum, the Loxahatachee Historical Society Museum, and the Flagler Museum. Enhancing this history are world renowned theatres, and galleries which host an assortment of musical, theatrical, and artistic plays, shows, and exhibits from both world renowned and emerging artists.

The Raymond F. Kravis Center takes center stage in Palm Beach's cultural venue. The beautiful $55 million facility showcases world-class orchestras, ballets, operas, dance troupes, and a thrilling season of theatrical performances.

Palm Beach Community College's Eissey Campus Theatre is a north county jewel. This new facility includes a 2,500 foot lobby and art exhibition area and seats 750. Performances include student productions, a guest artist performing series, and various performances by the Palm Beach Opera, the Florida Philharmonic and Ballet Florida.

For over forty years, the Boca Museum has provided a plethora of artistic, cultural, and social opportunities. With over 3,000 members, the museum has emerged as a most acclaimed artistic institution in South Florida.

Recent exhibitions include: "Ralph Gibson: Women," which is now touring the U.S., and "Eliot O'Hara: The World In Watercolor. The non-profit museum just opened an 11 acre, 180,000 square foot Museum Center that will set the standard for museums in the 21st century. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday; 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., weekends. Admission: free, donations accepted.

Experience the daily life of the Seminole Indians or Florida's earliest pioneers as you travel back in time . Enjoy the permanent exhibit "History Shaped by Nature", a fascinating collection of shells, documents, maps, artifacts, and Seminole War objects. This magnificent Gilded Age mansion was built by Henry Morrison Flagler for his wife, Mary Lily, in 1902. The restored Gilded Age museum houses a collection of period rooms, porcelains, paintings, silver, glass, dolls, and family memorabilia. The exhibits illustrate Gilded Age Florida and American history and the life and accomplishments of Henry Flagler. Admission: Adults, $7; Children 6-12, $3; Children under 6, free. Hours of admission are 10-5 Tues-Sat & Noon-5 Sun.

50 years of Edna Hibel's rich collection of painting, sculpture and porcelain art that won her numerous awards from such organizations and individuals such as the United Nations, Pope John Paul II, and the Royal Society of Art are on display. Considered the "best art museum in the State of Florida", the Norton's collection includes major works of art by the impressionist and European Masters, as well as key pieces by the leaders in American painting and sculpture.
